Gateway to Cape Cod – Thousand Trails Campground Review

Our journey through New England included a stop at this Thousand Trails campground in Massachusetts. Surrounded by cranberry bogs, pine trees and beautiful waterways, you feel like you are far away from everything, but it is a great location for exploring the area.

The campground gives off a 1980’s campground vibe, which we loved! The sites are spacious and with full hookups, and nestled in the trees. Even with our large rig, though, we didn’t have issues navigating, we just took our time. There is a pool and game room, playground, small camp store and outdoor activities, and they have holiday activities and events. There are trails all around the campground and they take you to a peaceful river in the back with a boat launch.

The campground is close to many areas to explore including Cape Cod, Plymouth, and a great town called Sandwich, where we of course stopped to get sandwiches for lunch!

While visiting, we were blessed with a spectacular light show from Mother Nature–the aurora borealis was active and gave us a dazzling light show. With this being a dark sky area, it is one of the best views we have ever seen–and since we weren’t expecting it, the eerie pink glow when we walked out for a stroll caught us by surprise!

Being surrounded by cranberry blogs, we were treated to getting to see the harvest in fall when they flooded the fields and collected the berries. It’s a sight to see, if you ever get a chance.

We met some great people while camping here and the staff and guests were friendly and social. If we are in the area, we will visit again, especially for another chance to see those dazzling lights!
