Favorite Things – First Season of RV life

May 11, 2022

No matter what chapter you are in or walk you are on in life, there are just some things that you find yourself loving–whether they are useful or just make you happy. As we have transitioned to a smaller space and more mobile lifestyle, I have come to find there are somethings that I appreciate more or simply make life easier. So let me share them with you and, if you are interested, I will have them linked below for you to find.

HOME LIFE There are 3 things that I absolutely adore in this category, two I got just for the camper life since space is premium, but they would stay in my home even if we had a sticks and bricks again!

First are Turkish towels. I love these items since they are colorful, dry fast and don’t take up much space, even though they are the size of a bath sheet. It took some getting used to since they aren’t as absorbent, but I love them now!

We also splurged on something called Beddy’s. We got a queen and a twin and they make life a breeze for making the bed. The bottom goes on like a fitted sheet, but the top is the blanket with a sheet that flips out or folds in, then you zip it shut. Making the bed look neat is super simple. Even my little one keeps his bed made now.

My 3rd item in this category I sadly don’t have right now. It is a 3-tiered candle I found at Dollar General, of all stores! When we were staying at an AirBnB last fall, it just didn’t smell homey, so I picked this candle up. I continued to use it in our camper and love the soft layered scents. The one I had was a blueberry, lemon and vanilla flavor–I hope they have it again when I pop in next.

PETS If you are like me, your pets are your babies. Our pups are a 14 year old Doxie named Molly and a 1 1/2 year old Shih-poo named Luna. They have very different energy levels, but we spoil them both, and they both love to go places with us.

The first item I love is their water bowl. I got it when we had a boat so I could take water without spilling and it has been a wonderful item in the camper and the truck. It has a floating lid with an opening, allowing them to drink water without making a mess or without it spilling while in transit. I found it on Amazon through Any Pet.

The second item I also found on Amazon and have loved it. It is a dog stroller that can also double as a bike trailer. It folds up easily (especially since the large tires come off) and both our girls fit inside. When needed, I can even fit the tortoise in his travel box in their sunroof! With a high energy puppy and an senior pup, this can go with us and be ready for one or both to ride in. We did add in a USB rechargeable fan for them since we live in Florida.

COOKING We love cooking and, while our smaller space and working around weather have changed some habits, we still make some great meals. Here’s 2 of our favorite items.

First is our instant pot. I know this is a popular item, and I was reluctant to get it. My husband really wanted one since we didn’t always want a hot camper while cooking. This has been an amazing way to cook roast, ribs, mac and cheese and rice quickly and easily, and without the heat. We got ours from Lowe’s and it’s an off-brand that had no cookbook, so there’s been a lot of internet searches, but all successful!

The second item is our Blackstone grill. It’s a portable cast iron griddle style grill. We always loved grilling and love having this option. We can cook so many things on it, including hibachi style meat, pasta and veggies and a full batch of french toast and sausage all at once.

PLANNING I have always loved a good planner since I prefer to plot things out in pencil. I had gotten away from it with virtual teaching, but with travelling and all the planning, I wanted to go back to it. I also wanted a way to record tidbits about our travels.

The planner I got is a full sized book that has the monthly calendar for us to plot our travels months in advance before adding them to our digital calendar for quick reference. It also has a pocket in it for us to save our membership maps and check in confirmations.

I also found this fantastic RV journal to record our mileage, locations and all the things we saw and did while traveling, including people we met!

FITNESS With our small space and mobile lifestyle, I still try to do the healthy things, and we walk and bike often. My current favorite thing is a stretch band. Since I sit and am on calls a lot, I can use this to stretch or work upper and lower body muscles, or use it for a full work out. Plus it can hang on the back of my chair or fit in my purse on a travel day.

There are so many more things that I am finding that make life easier, but these are my favorites right now. If you’re interested in any of them, I’ve linked them below for you!
