California or Bust! Our First Day of the Long Journey

After an enjoyable weekend with our friends in Kelso, Washington, it was time to finally start the long trek south. The weather went from hot to perfect to snowy in just a few days, so we had to adapt our original plans. We booked a week at Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes for our next big stop, so we had five days to cover the 900 mile trip.
We have learned we don’t mind long travel days, but we seriously dislike multiple travel days back to back, especially over long distances. Our game plan for this stretch was to do a 300 mile travel day, then stop for two nights to get a down day, and repeat.

Our first stop was 323 miles away in Medford, Oregon at a new RV Park called Mr. Bigfoot RV Park. We had some beautiful views through the mountains as we drove along I-5, and we had plenty of Open Roads stations and Rest Areas to choose from for once!
It was an enjoyable travel day, albeit long, and the only hiccup was our TPMS doing it’s crazy thing of telling us about a tire leak…in a phantom tire. We still haven’t figured out why it does that!

Checking in at the new RV park was a breeze, and it is a cute little park in town, nestled between businesses and a ball park. Our back in site was level and had full hook ups, so we were set up and enjoying dinner and a movie in no time. They offer Military discounts and have a grand opening rate right now. They also have a pool, laundry room, fire pit area and general store on property, and they have two campsites that have dog patios! We didn’t realize when we booked or we would totally have hooked Luna up with one.

With the cold weather, we decided to sleep in late, a lovely treat. Then we spent the day getting some of our to do list completed, and taking advantage of their FREE laundry room! Not sure if this will be permanent, or if it is just because they are newly opened, but a nice treat, either way.

Tomorrow we will continue our journey back into California with another rest day at Thousand Trails Lake Minden, before getting into Thousand Trails Yosemite Lakes. We are hoping the weather at the higher elevations are good so we can enjoy Yosemite National Park and plan for the next leg of our journey, which is entirely dependent on the weather.
We’ll see you in the next blog and let you know what happens, and details about that campground, too!
