Wandering through the World of the Peanuts Gang

When we were checking into our campground, we were chatting with one of our campground hosts, Lauren, about things to see and do around the area and she mentioned that, if we were Peanuts comic strip fans, we may want to check out the Charles M Schultz Museum, so we added it to our list!

The museum, located in Santa Rosa, California, is an amazing compilation of, not only his work on thousands of comic strips and the related books, but other items that paid tribute to the characters that so many of us grew up loving.

The museum building and the surrounding grounds walk you through many comic strips, statues, carvings, a reading room filled with Peanuts books, while also sharing history about Schultz and his life.

I loved wandering around, reading comic strips that I had seen and remembering my favorite characters and moments, as well as some that I had never seen before. They even had a display of his office, recreated from where it originally sat a short distance away.

They also had an art room where you could create your own version of various scenes and characters and show off your own skills. A movie runs as well, with stories of Schultz’s life from his wife. There are rooms where you also find out more about his childhood and life leading to the comics, as well as his time in WWII and the drawings he created.

He had turned this area into an amazing community area with ball courts and an ice skating rink. I grew up adoring ice skaters of the 80’s during my own roller skating days, and some of my idols had their names forever etched into the walk of fame on the property.

While the museum was a little higher on prices than we typically spend ($15 a person, $1 off for Veterans, and $7 for children) it was worthwhile to be transported to those memories from childhood. The cafe on site and attached to the skating rink was reasonably priced quick grab bites, so we shared a bite before going on our way.

While this certainly wasn’t on our radar in choosing this area, I sure am glad Lauren told us about it.
