Happy to Find An RV Park Near Washington DC

When a job lined up for us to stay in Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C., we were excited. We had always stayed in Alexandria since that is where our friends and kids live. And to get a chance to stay at an RV park close to the DC area was a perk! We were excited to find Cherry Hill Park in Maryland.

This park offers lots of amenities! You’ll find pools, splash pad, indoor hot tub and a dry sauna. There are several playgrounds, as well as pickleball, mini golf, basketball, gym, outdoor fitness area, a trail around the park, and path just outside the park. Some of the amenities have a cost for equipment at the office. You can walk the area, ride bikes, or they have golf carts to rent!

There is also an outdoor theater, ballroom and gathering areas, game room, laundry room and several bathhouses around the campground. The cafe, located near the pool, has ice cream and food items with indoor and outdoor seating, and also delivers to poolside or RV if you are happy hanging out where you are! If you are traveling with a pet, there are dog park areas in several locations.

If exploring is on your list, they’ve got you covered. There’s an info session daily to go over the tour options, since there’s a lot of information, and there is a bud depot across from the front office. You can also catch the metro bus if you prefer to be more self-guided and don’t want to drive. The metro options via bus and rail run about $10 per person, round trip.

There are several ways to stay at the park, so even if you don’t have an RV, or don’t want to bring it, this is still a great option! They have cabins, yurts, glamping tents, as well as tent and RV sites. All the sites include a picnic table and fire pit.

The premium RV sites also include a patio table and BBQ grill as well as a brick patio area. All the RV sites have hookups.

In the yurts, you’ll find a double bed, 2 sets of bunks–both with linens. There’s also a table, microwave & mini fridge, AC, towels, plus outside picnic table and fire pit with chairs. These are located near a bathhouse, so you really only need to bring food, clothes and toiletries.

The glamping cabins, near the tent section, include AC, double bed, cafe table, microwave and mini fridge, all linens, plus picnic table and fire pit. These are also near a bathhouse, so you only need to bring food, clothes and toiletries for these, as well.

We stayed here for a week and enjoyed the amenities and spacious park for daily runs and walks or exploring the area. There were several options for groceries, restaurants and shops nearby, as well. The downside for us was that highway noise is constant, transporter noise late night, especially at rear loop, like site 87 we were on for part of the week. We also stayed at site 11 when we extended and our site wasn’t available, and it was a lot quieter on the inside loop.

All in all, it was a good experience. Both the employees and fellow campers were friendly. I saw some signs that claim they are the closest RV park near DC. It’s very woodsy, convenient, would opt for this over a hotel if visiting the city since prices are a bit better than staying in the city. Then just use public transportation over driving into the city and parking, since it really won’t save you much time with traffic.
