Visiting Walla Walla, Washington

While in Washington, we made our way to Walla Walla, in the southeast corner of the state, right at the Oregon border. I had some Air Force buddies living there I hadn’t seen in ages, so we made time to visit.

This corner of the state is so vastly different from the images we had always seen of Washington state. Even though it was 100+ degree temps while we were there, it was neat to see the arid desert landscape as a stark contrast to the evergreens and rain we had expected.

This area is known for it’s vineyards, and Walla Walla is a destination location for wine tastings. In fact, you could spend an entire day or weekend visiting all the wine tasting shops just in the walkable downtown area and still not experience all that the surrounding vineyards have to offer.

We stayed at the RV Resort Four Seasons, just a short drive from downtown. While there are not a lot of resort amenities (no pool or outdoor activities), they do have a nice restroom/shower and laundry facility attached to the main office, as well as dog walk area along the river on the back of the property. It is well maintained and the office staff were friendly and helpful with suggestions for things to do. There is a sidewalk for walking or running, and, if you don’t mind the walk, it’s only about 10-15 minutes into town, if you want to leave your vehicle behind for those wine tastings!

The spaces are closer together, but being so close to town, that was expected, so not a concern. While the sites have hookups and the park is open year round, they do have water off in Winter, as many do in this part of the country, so be sure to plan and communicate accordingly.

The other thing we liked is that it’s a few minutes from the Oregon border, which meant it was a quick drive over the state line for fuel that was much less expensive than in Washington!

We didn’t get time to visit the Fort Walla Walla Park, but hope to return so we can explore the grounds and learn more about this area and its history.
