Our Stay at Savannah Lakes Resort

We recently spent a week at this new resort while working our way south. It is located in Hardeeville, South Carolina, just over the Georgia state line, and only about 20 minutes from downtown historic Savannah. We don’t typically stay at resorts, unless it is for an event or to catch up with friends, and in this case, it was both!
Originally, we were to have a SeRV event here last spring, but things fell through and the park wasn’t open yet due to some delays. They gave us 5 complimentary nights to use when they were open, so we took them up on that this fall, adding one extra night to our stay, as well. We were able to spend a few of those days with some of our SeRV friends, and participate in an event volunteering for Manna House Ministries (check them out if you are in the area, to shop, donate to the thrift store or food pantry, to volunteer yourself, or donate online).

This resort is located just off of I-95 at the Hardeeville exit. Coming from the interstate, the Garmin and Google maps both tried to direct us to make a u-turn to enter the park, but they do have a left turn lane in, so be aware of that, just in case it still isn’t updated when you visit.

Their park entry is large and easy to navigate, as is the entire park, and they have parking for check in around the office on the right side. There is an after hours packet pick up, if you will be late arriving. The office has a small camp store with snacks and basic supplies, and is also where you can rent a golf cart if you’d like (about $50 a day, when we were there), but isn’t necessary since it’s a horseshoe shaped park and the amenities are located around the middle of the park.

The parking pads are a good length, even for large RVs, with full hook ups at each site, and room for your tow vehicle, or a toad, to park there as well. If you have a second vehicle, you’ll need to take advantage of the overflow parking areas, just touch base with the office on that. Since it is new, there isn’t much tree cover, although the outer edges of the park do have tree stands surrounding them. It is pretty quiet at the sites, in spite of being near the interstate, which was great for enjoying fresh air and open windows at night. Our only negative about the sites was the small patio pad that is only in the middle of the pad. So if your door is not at the front of your RV, like our 5th wheel, you will have your steps in the grass. Picnic tables and firepits are available to rent for an additional fee, so be sure to include those in your reservation.
The park has several amenities, all located in the central horseshoe area. The pool area has a pool, hot tub, and splash pad, and a large patio area. These weren’t open when we stayed, but look like they will be spacious and enjoyable on hot southern days! There is a bathhouse just off the pool deck. This is located just off the clubhouse area. The clubhouse has a fully equipped fitness center, game area with pool tables and other activities, plus tables for puzzles and board games. There is a small seating area with television and desks for working. in the back half of the clubhouse is a fully equipped kitchen, tables and seating area with television, perfect for events and gatherings. All have large windows, giving it an open and spacious feel.

Across from this is an covered/open air gathering location with tables and a fireplace with lots of room for events and gatherings, as well. Next door to this is the bathhouse, pet wash station, and laundry room. The showers and pet wash were free to use, and the pet wash was well set up for large or small dogs. The laundry room was spacious with several machines, although a bit pricy compared to other campgrounds and laundromats ($7 to wash and dry, at the time of our visit). There are pickleball courts in the park and lots of sitting areas and gas fire pits located around for gathering.

There are two dog parks near the clubhouse, one for smaller dogs and one for larger dogs, as well as a stick library for them. Both dog park areas are fenced in and have both astroturf and real grass.

If you don’t have an RV, or are traveling with family that doesn’t, there are cabins for rent on the back of the resort with parking and a patio with grill.
There are sidewalks all around the park and the roadways are spacious and make a nice loop for a walk or run, about a mile in one loop, for the walkers and runners.
The resort is only a 20-30 minute drive if you plan to visit Savannah or Tybee Island area, and is a couple hours out from Charleston, if it is also on your list, so day trips from the area would be convenient if you’re looking for a central location to travel from.
All in all, this is a great resort and, should we have a need to stay in the area again, we would choose this place if it was in the budget.
