Capernaum Studios – Scenes from The Chosen

We recently watched The Chosen series and had seen that it was filmed in Texas. Since we were traveling through, I did a quick Google Maps search and found Capernaum Studios, the location for the first two seasons of The Chosen, among other shows, and that it was open for tours from the public. The studio was only about an hour or so away from our campground, so it was added to our list.

We checked their website for the filming schedule so we knew it would be open for tours the day we were visiting, then headed out. It’s a small studio area and wasn’t super busy when we visited on a weekday. They host private and holiday events, and are currently constructing some rides in parts of the studio to enhance the experience, which was kind of neat.

The statue garden they have is huge and was neat to wander through before reaching the village area. They almost look like set displays, and there are several scripture verses posted as you walk through the garden. It’s pretty peaceful, with music streaming through hidden speakers.

Since the show was still fresh in our memories, we recognized many of the spots from various scenes, and it was neat to see that some were part of a variety of scenes, just set up with different props to look like a totally different location. Since it is still an active studio, they have small placards with labels and QR Codes to identify some of the areas. As a Disney girl, I had to remind myself that this wasn’t staged for guest experiences, but for filming–that mindset made a difference.

We spent an hour or two exploring the sets and chatting with the studio workers that were on set that day. With the holidays coming up, they had holiday festivities coming up that sounded interesting, but we were going to be gone for. Future visit goals!

The parking area was large and, even with a rail covered entry, our rig would have fit, so we could have done this stop on a travel day. If you plan to do that, be sure to check the schedule and I’d call ahead to make sure there will be room for your RV!
