What to See, Do and Eat: Gig Harbor, Washington

With friends to catch up with, we found ourselves spending a week in Gig Harbor, Washington during a crisp first week of October.

We needed a place to serve as home base, and Sun Outdoors Gig Harbor checked all the boxes for us. This is a pricier area to RV in, but had larger spots than less expensive places, so we opted to stay for a week to capitalize on their weekly rate. It is a small park, but the Cushman Trail, a multi-use path, is nearby, so there were options for bike rides, runs and walks. They have full hook-up sites, both pull through and back in. Luna loved the dog park, but not the dog wash, even though we loved that! They also have a fitness center and laundry room attached to the main building, so everything is easy to find and close together. Propane fills are available on site at certain times, and their price was competitive with the local area. They are also close to lots of shops.

While there, we visited a variety of places.

We went into downtown Gig Harbor and explored along the marina and waterway. We stopped into the Heritage Distilling Co. for a taste of their Cocoa Bomb Chocolate Whiskey and a pretzel and beer cheese. Then we popped around the corner for a sweet treat at Iscreamery as we walked around town to explore and grab a couple of geocaches. Next we popped into the Marine Life Center and explored the tanks of creatures, chatting and learning about the local marine wildlife, and it’s free to enter, but they do take donations! Finally, we wandered the marina and a few more shops before heading home for the evening.

On another day, we went and hiked at Dickerson Creek Falls, exploring many of their trails and, surprisingly, catching the waterfall with a good amount of water still flowing into fall. I’ve got a whole blog on the trail, as well as information on the trailhead in that blog So Many Ways to Explore Dickerson Creek Falls Trail (Washington) linked here.

We met up with some friends at Peninsula Beverage Collective in Port Orchard, just near the ferry and enjoyed some beverages and dinner while we caught up with friends we hadn’t seen since our Hawaii trip in 2017.

We had hoped to hop the ferry and visit Seattle, but time got away from us, so that will be a trip for another time.

If you’ve been to the Gig Harbor area, what should be on our list for future visits?
