Beautiful Views at Lynchburg Thousand Trails

With a couple of weeks until we had someplace to be, we needed a stop to split the distance and give us some down time to relax. A quick glance at the Thousand Trails map showed Lynchburg Thousand Trails right in the area we were looking, so we booked a 4 night stay.
We did the online check in the week before and confirmed our trip, arriving on a Saturday. We got there mid-afternoon and got our package and directions to the site, only to find someone parked there. Eek! It took a bit to get it all worked out. Our new site was only 30A and full hook ups instead of the 50A we had originally booked, but boy did we have a much better view! We could see the lake and sunset from our windows.

This park is nestled in the trees and off the beaten path in Virginia and feels like a quiet retreat. The main campground is on the larger lake and it has a trail all the way around. There is also a smaller lake and trail, but those were closed at the time of our visit. All the amenities are situated just off the lake, including the clubhouse, activity center, playground and pool. It has a beach area and dock, perfect since it is a catch and release lake. The basketball, pickleball and min-golf areas were usable, but in need of some attention.
While some of the activity areas were in need of some TLC, the pool was well-maintained and a popular spot every day. It is gated and closes at the end of the day, so be sure to check times if that is on your list. There was a laundry room available, but we didn’t use it during our stay.

We spent much of our time walking the path around the lake and the hiking trails. We also went out on the paddleboards one day and explored the lake, seeing tons of fish, turtles, birds, and I’m pretty sure I saw an otter, although we couldn’t find him again, try as we might!
As for technology–our Verizon phones had no issue keeping 5G coverage throughout the area. There are a lot of trees, so depending on where you are assigned, you may have issues with Starlink. We were lucky to have a good clearing to our north and it worked just fine.

Even with our 39 foot 5th wheel, navigating the park was easy enough. The roads are marked. Be aware there are LOTS of hills, so you may need to take your time and definitely get out and look so you have a plan before parking your rig.
If you are looking for a quiet place on your travels through Virginia, this is a great spot!
